Goal setting - what i wanna develop in this campagin
The goals that I wanna develop through this campaign is to highlight how unsaturated adults and teens' lives can get after experiencing adulthood and hustle culture. This applies to all ages but my key focus is to highlight how i can show that kids and adults can interwine and also have fun within their respective ages and know how to keep a balance within their physical & mental health, which is a thing that a lot of people forget nowadays when they are too indulged with life matters, they don’t really get to experience a livelihood as they did when they were kids and i feel like it's important to showcase that matter so people are more aware of how fundamental the international day of play is and how it benefits you as we all know how detrimental your mental health can get whilst you’re growing up. My main goal is to spread awareness about this cause and try to make a difference in today’s world by emphasizing what the international day of play plays into individual’s lives and daily routines. One of my other goals is to make clear and stable shots so the documentary can feel / look professional as camerawork is something I really want to touch on especially with my directorial intent. I want to also use clean cuts for interviews (this is a maybe), adding titles for people’s names and or a short opening title for the documentary.

Final documentary

REFLECTION
This was the feedback for my old draft. Unfortunately, while i was editing this draft I had deleted some footage unknowingly and then therefore had the whole project ruined which led me to re-doing it all over again.

At the same time, I had not been on my A game when it came to my A2.4 because of the conflict that has been going on. As a result, I haven't been able to dedicate as much as time and energy as i originally intended to. Despite this, i still made an effort to rebuild my project from scratch and apply the feedback i had received as best as i could. While i know this version may not reflect what i had wanted + the feedback. Through this evaluation I realized that i had also missed the final video pitch that i wanted to do.
Evaluation for A2.
My initial intention for this documentary was that i wanted to show a kind of progressive approach towards childhood and then to adulthood. Obviously, this changed as I went along because of my work ethic. I feel like when i get more of a hands-on experience I work better / think better and so obviously this influenced me to change a lot of things along the way and kind of keep my initial intention as the foundation part of the whole documentary.
My final cut improved from all the documentation i did simply because it taught me how to convey my intentions through storytelling. I would have not gathered my ideas creatively and visually if it weren’t for my primary and secondary research, which was crucial for capturing this element. The final product was also visually shaped by my storyboard, which was vital when determining how I could've creatively shown the documentary on a more profound level.
I didn’t really complete my tasks on time and instead procrastinated most of it a lot. I started this component late as I was also dealing with the same issue beforehand + having to deal with the issues going on in the middle east. Some of the best things / ways that worked for me was that i tried to let loose and see where my creativity led me until the final cut. Additionally, I got a lot of criticism and made some improvements as a result, which was really beneficial for me. I want to change my work ethic and how I approach things instead of leaving it at the last minute, which should be one of my focuses on the next project. I had no issues with the shooting and editing portion. (As i am writing this, I did lose all my postproduction footage objectively speaking because of storage problems) But aside from time management, I am doing okay so far in that area of my work ethic
The feedback that i got from my peers + teacher affected my final cut in a super beneficial way. It helped me see my work from a new angle + made me critically think about my choices overall.
I do think that my final cut is fit for the purpose because i tried my hardest to make it educational, informative and to also match the intention i had set in my mind. I tried to make it as nostalgic as possible and through that I kinda just wanted it to be a reminder more than anything. Through the narrative, the sound, the editing and the cinematography. I didn’t really go for a scripted piece but more like something that feels care-free & interview like in a way. I thought this would be an amazing way to highlight the International Day of Play and its cause.
My main idea was to communicate the brief and through that i did an interview style documentary. I made it seem like it was a memories / nostalgia kind of visual which then transcended to the interview bit and was really flowing together with all these elements. The music was also really important because i didn’t want something too slow or too fast i just wanted it to be intermediate and kind of show the message that i wanted to portray in my expository documentary. I really just wanted to focus on the naturalism and the realism of it all.
My documentary on play is appropriate for its intended audience and outside of the target audience because i tried my hardest showing what it was like from my own personal experiences and my own nostalgia. I wanted this to just be a documentary that everybody could relate to of all ages. I don’t think it will be appropriate for those who aren’t used to this specific style of documentaries as I wanted a more modern approach instead of just making it a boring expository documentary. Through that, I tried my hardest highlighting the cause as I could. Something I want to try differently next time to make it more suitable is try harder with my work and see where my research takes me so I can make the documentary way more suitable for an audience as the things that I am portraying visually and narratively may not be the same thing I experienced or other people may have.
I used a realistic and nostalgic approach with my documentary. I felt like this was more effective in highlighting the cause and why it's so important for everybody. I used this throughout the planning all the way to production and then postproduction.
I feel like the content of my documentary was effective because of the narrative that I chose to illustrate. Whether that may be through the editing, sound, location, content I really tied it all together with the interview bits because i didn’t want to make it a random documentary and have people who are watching it confused. This helped my content be more effective and make the narrative good. One thing I could use improvement on is focusing on more of the technical and time skills rather than just assuming that people will understand the content of my documentary. I do feel like i could have done more but that is just motivation for my next project.
I tried using a lot of ambient noise that tied along with the music. This then helped me with the nostalgia factor rather than just being an idea of mine but then putting it into the whole thing. I do feel like i tried harder with my cinematography as i did use a tripod and also a higher quality camera, but the one issue I did have was through my color grading. The sound and editing were effective as well because if it were not for that then i would not have been able to make it into what it was. Due to my work ethic I feel like this is where i truly do get to thinking and planning on how i could show this in the best way that i can.
The feedback that i got on my final documentary was good. But the area of improvement was that i needed to work on my audio balance more with the ambient sounds, music, voice overs. I also was told that the text i included in the screen could be clearer and that there are themes on this that could have been developed more consistently throughout the narrative and documentary. Overall, i am very happy with what I did with my documentary and the process that I went through to do it. I learnt that creativity isn't linear and that actually there are a lot of things you have to go through just so you can produce. This was the first time I ever did a documentary and obviously there were things that i lacked in and still do lack in. I will carry this in my next production by trusting myself in my creative choices and immediate problem solving when things don’t go my way.
